Let the parade of Ships begin! Aune-Osborn Campground is the best place in Michigan that we have found to watch the ships on the Great Lakes go by. It is amazing how close you are to the ships as they pass by you on their way to and from the locks just up the river. It has been quite some time since we were last up here. We have been recommending this place to anyone we know going to the U.P. but had forgotten ourselves just how incredible the place is. …

Showboat Park Campground is a nice park, too bad they don’t want anyone to camp here! The bathhouse is clean and well cared for. The lawns are mowed every day. The trash cans are emptied every day. The sites are large and level. There are plenty of shade trees. Showboat Park was getting ready for a concert the day we arrived. It is good to see it trying to make a comeback. The smaller towns in Michigan have been hit hard by the economy and I am glad to see them making an effort to survive.   Sunday was the River Run 5k. Our kids along with our grandkids were in the race. It was nice to see them as they ran past our campsite. We enjoy this park. It is a nice quiet and relaxing place to visit.

We selected the Showboat Park Campground as our next destination for several reasons. We wanted a place centrally located for our friends and family to gather for Father’s Day. We wanted to get a little closer to Lansing, where we were going to attend the Celtic Women concert. We wanted a place near a golf course, so that us dads could play a little golf on Father’s Day. And we wanted to do some kayaking on the Shiawassee River which runs through the park.  The park is very nice. They take …
