Fifth Wheel Hitch Mirror Modification
Keystone had good intensions putting a mirror above the 5th wheel hitch on the front cap. It really helps you see the hitch to allign it with the king-pin while backing up. This is expecially handy for those of us with crew cabs who can’t see the hitch from the drivers seat.
The problem is that the mirror didn’t last long before it started to fade away. It then becomes useless. When I called Keystone to see if I could get a replacement the woman that answered the phone on their service line said “are you talking about the black thing on the front of the trailer?” I replied that mine wasn’t completely black yet but yes that was it. I decided if the mirrors they had still in the factory were already coming apart then purchasing a new one would only delay the inevitable.
So I came up with the notion that this location would be the ideal place to display our Bug Smacker logo.
I created the decals and before placing them on the cap, I cleaned what was left of the mirror with rubbing alcohol to provide good adhesion. The alcohol actually completely removed what was left of the reflective coating leaving behind a nice black background.
